I did a little poll among some Africa enthusiasts recently to determine where in Africa they would most like to welcome in the New Year – if they could choose anywhere in Africa.
The results were overwhelmingly biased towards the beaches along Africa’s east coast. And I can’t think why not…balmy nights, warm sea, fresh sea food and the smell of the exotic…I think they have the right idea.
“I would party it up on Diani Beach in Kenya. Chill with friends, candles and eventually watch the sunrise.” was Zuby85’s proposal for her New Year celebration.

Liesel’s idea of a perfect African New Years Eve party wasn’t much different. She is looking for “a fab beach party that goes on all night and ends up with everyone swimming in the sea at sunrise!” and she’s really not fussy if that happens on the Kenyan Coast, on the spice island of Zanzibar or on a palm tree littered island off Mozambique.

Same idea, but a different location for claudiskies, “I would love to be on a beach in Mauritius with a nice little beach bonfire, some chilled tunes and good food. Possibly even a midnight dip in the ocean to ring in the new year...”

Are you starting to see the same trend as me?
Well except for The Fynbos Guy. His ideal African New Years Eve was, “Table Mountain! A secret little overhang next to a permanent pool and surrounded by summer-flowering orchids.” And do you know what? I know he’s somewhere between the Table Mountain cable car and Cape Point as I write this.
Where ever you are celebrating the New Year, I wish you all the best for 2010.
