Of Golf, Gambling and Safari

Any golfer worth his salt knows that the Nedbank Golf Challenge is the highlight of the South African golfing calendar. You don't need to be a scratch golfer to know that some of the biggest names in golf were recently playing it off against each other for the chance of winning just over a million dollars.

It's riveting stuff watching the pro's tackle the challenging Gary Player Golf Course. While it's a relatively flat course, there are plenty of tricky bunkers, sneaky water hazards and hidden pins that ensure that even the most accurate of golfers is kept on his or her toes.

Don't be fooled into thinking this event is purely for golf fans. Sun City is a great family vacation spot, so while dad is walking the course, mom and the kids can hang out at the Valley of the Waves. If mom wants to watch some golf too, no problem! Kamp Kwena offers a variety of exciting events to keep the little ones entertained.

In the evening, try your luck in the casino while the kids have a ball at the entertainment centre.

And when you've had your fill of excellent sport and exciting family activities, head out to the Pilanesburg Game Reserve for an awesome family safari.

• 1. I've been to Sun City out of golf season - and wow it sure does make a big impact! I walked the top few holes of the course - it is so unique with crocodiles in the water and water birds all over the place!
  My favourite Sun City memory is the super-delicious breakfasts in the Palace of the Lost City and of course - the Valley of the Waves - woohoo!

• 2. Another stunning golf course is the Leopard Creek Country Club course, located on the border of Kruger.
  This weekend Pablo Martin from Spain won the Alfred Dunhill Championship beating out South Africa's Ernie Els.
