We got the
following message from Jackie and the group..... (22/06/03)
It's called
a pride of lions, a clan of hyenas and a pod of hippos...and we saw them
all and more! Some of the animals are quite curious and approach
our vehicle. Janice, our group tracker, wins the award for bravery. As
the lion approached the landrover, with his head almost in the seat, her
words of protection were "don't take a picture!". We were motionless!
The
food is an Epicurean's delight! The food critic, Jean Setering warns
that we are eating everything. We do not care! Beth, our time of late,
thinks the Savanna staff is fattening us for the kill. This could be
true because they are so nice and attentive.
I am thinking of the open
fire around which we dined last night, it's called a BOMA (British Officer
Mess Area). They could have easily rolled
me over into the flames and I would have burned with pure delight and
satisfaction.
Can you believe that we are all awake and heading out on
our game drives as early as 06:00 am daily. This morning however we are
all a bit misty
eyed because we are leaving. It's all been great!
The last treat was a
walking safari from deep in the bush to Savanna Camp. All the members
of the group (expect for Jackie the do nothing)
arrived for breakfast all soaked to the bone from recent rains. (I guess
the task was too much for our weather person, Gracie.)
The task assigned
to Keri, the fun monitor, was not to great, because though out hearts
were heavy, there were smiles of appreciation, as we
looked forward too our next adventure, Lesedi Village.
Oh, did I tell
you the LIONS ROARED!!
