New Years Eve in Cape Town

Right people, I'd like your opinions on what to do on New Years Eve in Cape Town. I'm keen for low key, not many people, bit of chilling, bit of music, bit of dancing...and the option to plug it in and leave at 12.05.

Awesome. I await your suggestions!

  • 1. Hey there! Well if you don't want to be in the midst of hordes of people all squashed up together and not much space to breathe - but you still want tto have fun, dance, eat and be merry - I would suggest an early evening braai on the beach - maybe one of the lesser known beaches like Boulders and then you could either party the night away right there or move the party to someone's house and dance till your feet hurt. Have fun!

  • 3. I am also in the mood for something a bit more sedate this year. I am in all likelihood going to end up having a very chilled braai with some good friends, hopefully someplace with a view so we can catch the fireworks displays over the city.

  • 4. I can't wait for New Year's this year - No clubs, no street party. Just myself, my hubby and a few friends renting a holiday house in Noordhoek with a pool overlooking Noordhoek/Kommetjie beach. Don't have to drive anywhere far, partying, braai and having the beach right on our doorstep for the After party!!! ;-) It's going to be so great!

  • 6. Yes I'm keen on that - apparently the tickets are about R200 - which is a little steep considering you have to add food and drinks to that tally...but then again - a braai at home with all the trimmings and friends and food...well it could just add up!
Thanks for the great idea :)

  • 7. Hey Kimberoo, well we are taking the 'party' and chilled vibe to just outside Cape Town, to Theewaterskloof. Only 1hr 40min away you have the pleasure of a huge dam to cool you off in the day, camping, club cafe if you are terrible at braai'ing and a chilled or manic evening of your choice. :)

  • 8. Hey emma - that sounds pretty cool actually - it seems like everyone is keen for chilled vibes and a casual fun party that doesn't involve too much driving around and navigating endless crowds (pedestrians and drivers) on the road...
    Thanks for the ideas everyone!

  • 9. Hey Kimberoo. I am not so sure about the beach party in Cape Town idea, that is if you plan on drinking alcohol during the festivities anyway. The metro police are really taking things seriously this year, clearly with 2010 soccer fever in mind, they are cracking down on the alcohol consumption on our beaches. Some friends of mine got a R150 fine the other day for their sundowner bottle of wine! I have to agree withclaudiskieson this one, relaxed braai with close friends in town with a view over the city, and then, should anyone want to party later, catch a taxi into town and avoid the roadblocks.

  • 10. Don't worry nicola, I never intended on drinking at the beach! I'm now decorating my patio with fairy lights, bringing out some jazz and enjoying a braai at home... super low key.
