Growing up bare-foot in the Great Lakes Area of Central Africa and experiencing an extraordinary thing the developed world has sadly lost along the way ... freedom. Ah - those travel experiences - guess most date back to those days when one did not have any major responsabilities - when one could lock up the frontdoor of his house one lazy morning and leave a message 'out on a short journey'. No plan - just an idea, no specific destination - but many dreams, no cell or contact number - but you'll certainly know if I'm in trouble. A timeframe of two weeks - flexible enough to turn into three months ... resulting in a journey full of flavour and enriched by the many cultures along the way.
I'm an Africa Addict and consider this continent 'my home'. I respect all sorts of different norms and values which does not necessarily mean I would make them my own. But one thing I am sure of is that we can learn many things from each other. While born in Belgium (at least that's what my passport says) - my parents left the country for Algeria when I was four. I had the priviledge of growing up in a family of 'nomads' and spent most of my life in Central, East & Southern Africa. After my university studies in Belgium, I did work for a local NGO in Tanzania, ran my own tourism business on the Kenya Coast, guided tours in Southern Africa ... and joined Go2Africa three years ago for my first job between four walls. And if one thinks this is still not enough to fill this post - well - here we go ... I did relocate back to East Africa (Uganda this time) beginning of January 2010 and am so glad to feel the real African dust back into my soul ... and onto my feet !!
